HOB Post

Our video post production room is designed to accommodate the most demanding video projects. We offer machines to support raw footage from almost any format, frame rate, or resolution. Avid NitrisDX is at the backbone of the system, providing real-time 1:1 color correction in 1080p and universal mastering capabilities (so mixing multiple formats and source material in the same project is instantaneous). Additionally, “video satellite” allows simultaneous audio mixing in the adjacent Studio C from the same project timeline. This setup allows for critical audio and video post production without the need to bounce between multiple facilities.

Color Grading & Finishing

Your video is done, now what? Color grading and audio finishing are vital steps in perfecting any project. House of Blues Post makes color grading and audio finishing fast and exceptional with the best tools and an experienced staff.

Resolution

Resolution refers to the lines of horizontal resolution. In high definition, 720 and 1080 are the most popular resolutions.

Frame Rate

Frame rate is the number of frames per second. For film, this number is traditionally 24. Video has traditionally been 30 frames per second. To emulate film, some video formats can record 23.98 frames.

Progressive or Interlaced

In “interlaced” video, every other line of resolution is changed with each frame (technically, since it's not the whole “frame” changing, interlaced video is “half-frames” referred to as “fields”). In a progressive picture, the entire resolution of the frame is updated with every frame, making for a clearer picture compared to an interlaced frame of the same resolution. That's why 1080 interlaced (more resolution) is comparable to 720 progressive (more resolution per frame), even though 1080 is a higher number.

Utility

Not everyone has the VTRs or processing that they need to complete their project in-house, so we offer a special utility rate for these clients. Utility services include up-converting, down-converting, cross-converting, dailies, dubbing, digitizing, capturing, and compressing.

Summary

Depending on where your project is broadcast, the format they require may vary. House of Blues Post can handle almost any format, whether it's 720p at 23.98 or 1080p at 29.97 or 1080i at 59.94 on HDCAM, DVCPRO-HD, XDCAM-HD, HDV, AVC-Intra, etc. We can also conform any source material to any final format (ex: 720p to 1080i). However, if you are unsure of how to optimize shooting for your finished product, please feel free to contact us before you start so we can discuss how to technically make your production at the highest quality from the beginning.
